Cannes Diary Day 1- Star Walk In Style At The Opening Gala Of The 70th Cannes Film Festival

The 70th Cannes Film Festival has kick-started at the Palais des Festivals convention center. It was one of the most hotly-anticipated events of Hollywood's social calendar and this year is it 70th anniversary. On the day 1 stars walked down the red carpet in stylish designer ensembles. Let’s take a look:

1. Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid, 20, walked the red carpet in a stunning pink Alexandre Gauthie gown. The supermodel attended the opening gala of the festival in a custom made couture creation by Alexandre Vauthier, which featured a strapless sweetheart neckline, a side split and a dramatic train. The gown helped her flaunt her enviable petite frame. She wore dazzling sapphire necklace by Bulgari.

2. Emily Ratajkowski

Emily Ratajkowski arrived in a glossy nude gown. The gown was made of stunning soft silk, with plunging round neck which flaunted her cleavage, with a daring thigh-high split on one side. Her gown was cut into an open back, secured by delicate diamond straps at just above her rear. She swept her hair up into an up-do with vintage bangs falling and smoky eyes.

Lily-Rose Depp arrived in a Grecian-style white Chanel gown. The dress was mixture of modern and old world charm. The gown was secured at the waist and shoulders with a string shimmering gold leaves before it fell into gorgeous white pleats all the way to the floor. She styled her hair in simple curls, and added glowing make-up to her enviably clear skin.

Model Hailey Baldwin arrived on the red carpet in a blue peplum gown. The satin number flashed plenty of skin with its low cut V neckline and backless detailing. Hailey then matched her dramatic outfit with a blonde hair styled into a blunt bob, and finished her look with deep bronzer and a strong brow.

Jessica Chastain, wore a stunning embroidered black Alexander McQueen gown. The star brought old Hollywood charm with her strapless frock, which consisted of velvet bodice embroidered with delicate red, yellow and white flowers all over. Cutting off at her mid-thigh, the gown then extended down into a semi-sheer skirt, lined with a matching velvet ruffle at the hem. She then added a delicate silver choker to her neck and styled her hair into big and bouncy waves.

6. Marion Cotillard

Marion Cotillard wore a quirky black Jean Paul Gaultier Couture dress with a daring short hem at the front. The dress was formed of a raunchy strapless bodice, secured by racy lace-up corset detailing and a chunky buckled belt at her waist. She wore metallic heels and left her hair open and kept her make-up natural. She then changed into her second show-stopping look of the night - a thigh-skimming gold mini dress and studded heels

7. Elle Fanning

Elle Fanning arrived on the red carpet like a princess and totally stole the show in a regal cream gown by Vivienne Westwood. The gown was made of delicate ivory silk from head to toe. It looked classic specially with the stiff strapless neckline and figure hugging corset, puffed out into a bold and beautiful full skirt. With a closer look the gown, we could see the striking water-colour detailing on the back of the skirt, depicting a selection of bright red and pink flowers for a pop of colour. She poses with her hand on her hip and tied her hair together with a slicked back bun and red lipstick.

8. Susan Sarandon

Susan Sarandon, 70 wore a green velvet gown with a pair of dark sunglasses. The figure hugging dress which featured an off-the-shoulder cut to highlight her ample assets and the thigh-high split flashed her amazing legs. A pair of classic black pumps, statement shades and stunning sapphire drop earrings finished her look.

9. Naomie Harris

Naomie Harris wore a striped tulle frock of pink, orange and green, by Gucci. The gown cinched in at her waist with a netted ruffle, before expanding out into a unique A-line tulle skirt. She layered a delicate silver necklace across her décolletage, with a whopping £89,000 from Atelier Swarovski, and swept her tousled tresses behind her shoulders. She also wore a £6,000 ring and £7,000 earrings from the Austrian company’s fine jewellery collection. Uma Thurman wore a classically glamorous figure-hugging pink gown by Atelier Versace. Paired with simple metallic heels and a matching choker, the blonde was the picture of elegance as she blew kisses at fans on the carpet.
